Annotated Book-List.
Please develop a list of at least 10 books of children's literature. The books need not be physical books; for instance, like "The Gruffalo" which we read, heard and watched in class, the book can be a read-aloud YouTube video. The books can be in any language. Your list must represent a variety of genres.
For each book in the list, give a brief plot outline, and a rationale for why it is included in the list. You can use the framework of elements of fiction that we developed during the course. Please suggest the appropriate age-group for each book. Also, where possible, indicate where we can get each book (publisher, website, etc.)

1) Panchatantra:
Plot: Vishnu Sharma makes four naughty and mischievous princes into educated boys through the different stories, most of them are animal fables. This Panchatra stories are based philosophy on 5 things that are Aparīkṣitakārakaṃ (On Hasty Actions), Labdhapraṇāśam (On losing what you have gained), Kākolūkīyam (On war and peace through the stories of crows and owl), Mitra-lābha (The winning of friends) and Mitra-bheda (The loss of friends).
Story plot: In search of food, one lion enters into the fox’s den, and waits for fox to kill and eat in fox home only, in the evening fox while entering into the her/his den, s/he observes some foot feet and suspect that lion/tiger will be there inside her home, and later s/he say that “Dear den, Shall I enter now” and lion thinks that, oh this Den might speaks, and with cunning foolishness say “Yes, you can enter, no one is in your Home”, by hearing this that fox escapes from this place.

Rationale: I feel, this might create some interest in children, by this I want to teach the value of observation skills in our life to the children, I feel, here the illustrations also made which is not practical in the forest, that means den with furniture, etc. I will try to make imagine, if humans behave like animals etc.

I feel, this literature genre is to learn by observing surrounding nature.
2) BhethalaKathallu:
Plot: Vikramarka was the King of Ujjaini with kind, clever and daring nature, once saint will come and ask for help, to bring one ghost named Bethala, When Vikramarka comes to take Bhethala, Bhethala accepts to come with certain conditions has to be followed, Those conditions are “Vikramarka need to say the answers for the puzzled story questions, if he will not answer the Bhethala’s question even though he knows answer, his head will become into thousand parts, If Vikramarka talk, Bhethala will return back to his home.
Story Plot: In Vijayapuri Kingdom, Suryamuki was the only princess, parents use to nurture her like the son only, through learning she get all capabilities which kings have, when she comes to adult age, her father gave kingdom responsibilities to her daughter, later they will think of her marriage. Suryamuki puts the rule, I want to marry a guy, who only those who defeat me in the sword fight. In the swayamvara (selecting process of selecting a Bridegroom), Suryamuki defeats all the princes. One prince called Jayanth observes her fighting skills from a distance and on the battlefield, Suryamuki also observes these actions on Jayanth. In the battlefield, Jayanth defeats Suryamuki. But Suryamuki disagrees to marry him. Later Jayanth will take blessings from Suryamuki and goes to his kingdom.
Bhethalas questions “Why She doesn’t marry him, even though he defeated her”. To save his (Vikramarka) life from Bhethala, he says that “Jayanth learned the skills from Suryamuki only, so here, she becomes the Teacher for him, so according to virtues it not possible to marry teacher, so Jayanth takes blessing from Suryamuki and leaves”
Rationale: This kind of stories will develop the children’s thinking capabilities, if we ask questions, this will develop the children’s imagination capabilities also.
I feel, this literature genre is to think critically on the conditions of life, and how we view the situations in life.
3) Paramahamsa Yogananda:
Plot: It is the story of a Human, who wants to become a yogi through science of meditation. This books explains about his journey.
Rationale: I think, only some people knows about him, I want children to know about him. This explains how determined he was to achieve his goals, etc.

I feel, this literature genre is to know autobiography of a person.
4) Gulliver travels:
Plot: Gulliver is the traveler, who voyages from the sea, circumstances will make him to land in the Lilliput kingdom. Later he helps Lilliput kingdom from neighbor kingdom and makes friendship platform between those kingdoms. This is experience of Gulliver in Lilliput kingdom.
Rationale: This story is an invented imaginative literature, which made as imaging the impossible things. I feel, fiction and fantasy stories will be our dreams.
I feel, children are strong enough in their imaginations, I will ask their dreams and assumptions to create a fiction and fantasy.
Andhra Pradesh state secondary school board also publishes books for children. Amazon also we can get this book.
I feel, this literature genre to imagine the fiction and fantasy in classroom.
5) Tom and Jerry:
Plot: Tom is cat & Jerry is mouse, there is constant fight between these two things, these stories are in animated series made for fun.
Rationale: I want, to put this for literature for fun generation in the classroom.
I feel, this literature genre is for comedy in classroom.
6) Tenali Ramakrishna:
Plot: Tenali Ramakrishna was one of eight scholars (Poets) in SriKrishnaDevaraya Empire. Tenali known for his wit and humor.
Story Plot: Krishnadevaraya asks people in his durbar, “How you define human behaviour”. One of the minster says that Human behaviour is like dogs tail, because it always in a curl state. Then Krishnadevaraya says “why we can’t make dog’s tail straight”. Then he gave 4 dogs to 4 people in his durbar, and orders them to nurture for six months, to check tail position will change or not. One ties dog tail with stick for six months, another will put weight on Dog’s tail, another will Dog’s tail in pipe. And Ramakrishna will gives only very minimum food for its existence till six months.
After six months all will assemble in king’s durbar, expect Ramakrishna’s dog tail, all other dog tails will come into its previous position. Reason behind this Ramakrishna’s dog does have energy to turn his/her tail also.
Then Tenali Ramakrishna explains that when humans have certain sadness, failures, then s/he keep him/her self in calm manner like how this tail is, but when situations comes under his control, again his/her tail will become curl.
Rationale: By this, I will try to explain human behaviour to the children, how situations will mould us, or how we can mould situations.
I feel, this literature genre is to think beyond the limits, to know the truth.
7) Abhimanyu:
Plot: Abhimanyu is the child warrior, when the condition of his team was worse in Kurushestra battle field, he went for chasing Padma/Chakra Vyuha (strategy) by defeating most of the people in the opponent side.
Rationale: By this, I want to share to the children, when the conditions are wrose, we need to face those troubles in that process, even though we dead, we will alive in people heart.
I feel, this literature genre is mythology, saying child warrior braveness in the war, and also for parent behavior on conception time.

8) Chota Bheem:
Plot: says about small children namely Bheem and his gang, who constantly help their villagers from problems with the support of king.
Rationale: This literature tries to explain the nature and beauty of community, By this, I want to make children, to explore their surroundings, to know the problems and solutions of that community.
I feel, the Genre of this literature is fantasy which is used to solve the community problems.
9) Jathaka Tales:
Plot: Jathaka Tales were the earliest Buddhist literatures in India, concerning the previous births of Buddha in both animal and human forms.
Story plot: One Brahmin, was the head of his family, because of him, his family lead a happy life, unfortunately he will dead. Later his family fallen on road, through begging they lead their life, later that Brahmin got new birth in the form of swan, he remembers and observes his family conditions. After seeing his family problems, he drops one wing golden petal daily in his home; soon his family becomes rich because of her husband in the form of swan. Late she becomes greed and takes all golden petals of that swan, later those petals will become normal petals, from next day onwards that swan husband, leaves her home.
Rationale: To explain the different cultures to the children. To make them to realize the value of human life.
I feel, The genre is fiction based literature, by which it is trying to say some morals to the us.
10) Malgudi days:
Plot: It was written by R.K. Narayan, it the collection of his short stories.
Story plot: This story of a Post man- Thannappa, who maintains good relations with community people for whom he delivers post. Ramanujam is a clerk in Revenue office. Thannappa didn’t deliver one post to Ramunjam, to make marriage happen in their family. That post has the news in which “Ramunjam uncle was dead”
Rationale: This I want to put, to make children to encourage their work without disturbing their self-esteem complex.
I feel, the genre here looks like practical/realistic in nature.
NOTE: Based on personal feelings, perceptions, I selected this literature. This might not be consciously written. These feelings/perceptions are come from close mindedness. Which is close because of my past experiences.
Here I am also the children and student to learn, I don’t want to be there not teach only in schools, I want to learn also. Here in School, I will try to share the knowledge/education/literature.
